Spring 2013 John E. Ketcham Memorial Scholarship
Anne-Marie Crampton, Director, Institutional Advancement
The Lamar Community College Foundation is proud to announce Clint Buringa as its Spring 2013 John E. Ketcham Memorial Scholarship recipient. Karen Ketcham presented Clint with his $1,000 scholarship. A freshman from Golden, Colorado, Clint is completing an Ag Transfer (Associate of General Studies) degree and competes on the LCC Rodeo Team in team roping (header).
The scholarship seeks to honor Ketcham, a former LCC Horse Training & Management instructor and long-time rodeo coach. The award was made possible through the generous donations from friends and family, made at the time of John’s death. In addition, the scholarship was further enhanced through a match from the Fortunaires Club Charitable Foundation, Inc., of which Karen is a member through Transamerica Life Insurance Company. Karen Ketcham explained, “the Ketcham family is grateful to be able to support Clint, an excellent candidate, and LCC through this fund.”
LCC students may apply for the 2013-2014 John E. Ketcham Memorial Scholarship by accessing the LCC Ag Scholarship packet at www.lamarcc.edu/scholarships. Applications are due on April 5, 2013.
LCC is Building Capacity
The reality of today’s higher education is that colleges cannot expect a steadily increasing funding stream from the State and other sources. LCC is taking that challenge on with recent reassignments in advancement.
28-year LCC veteran Gwen (Gruenloh) Krum moved to the college’s Grant Coordinator position on February 1. She will research grant opportunities and assist faculty and staff in writing proposals. She has begun a ‘hit list’ of funding opportunities and will carefully attempt to match our needs to potential funders. “I am excited about the opportunities that are out there for our students and college,” commented Krum. “Funders want to invest in Southeast Colorado.”
Anne-Marie Crampton has spent much of her fourteen years at the college in and around the LCC Foundation, in addition to marketing. As of January 1, she is the full-time foundation director and will lead the college’s efforts in seeking alternative funding from private donors, foundations, corporations and community organizations.
“The foundation and grants office will work in tandem to locate appropriate resources,” commented Crampton. “We are a team focused on growing the college through alternative funding methods.”
